In the coming months, we’ll be reaching out to sponsors, booking bands and artists, and curating the film program to make our 2018 fest kick at least as much ass as 2017! If you’re a filmmaker anywhere in the world, or a musician/artist in Michigan, please reach out to us to learn how you can be a part of the fest. We’re also looking for Michigan-based volunteers—hit us up if you wanna hang out and help out!

Thanks to everybody who helped make VTFF2017 a huge success—we hope to see you again at VTFF2018!!
The Vidlings & Tapeheads Film Festival is now accepting submissions for our 2018 Art Exhibition!
We’re looking for 2D or wall-mounted art by Michigan artists to accompany our film festival during the last weekend of July 2018. VTFF encourages and celebrates subversiveness, innovative use of materials and budget, and quirky independent work that doesn’t fit comfortably within any one genre. In keeping with the spirit of unconventional narratives, we’re looking for representational work that tells a story, alludes to a story (illustration-style), or is otherwise character or genre inspired.
We do our best to curate a diverse and engaging program with a progressive group of unconventional filmmakers, musicians, and artists from Michigan and around the world. We strive to be inclusive and welcome people of all ages, genders, ethnicities, nationalities, creeds, orientations, and walks of life to submit!
To get a sense of the venue space and atmosphere, here are some photos from the VTFF2017 Exhibit.
I kind of have a thing for film festivals. There’s something magical about watching movies with filmmakers and an audience that really gives a shit. Something amazing about the crazy days and long nights hanging out with fellow dreamers and makers. The thrill of discovery! I’ve been particularly inspired by fests that foster a creative community, involve music and art, and are anchored in a city or neighborhood that is often overlooked or underappreciated. There’s a reason why we love “Show & Tell” as kids—we all have a need to be heard and share what we’re passionate about! The Vidlings & Tapeheads Film Festival is what that looks like for our crew, in this town, at this moment.
Our inaugural fest was a huge success! We received over 200 film submissions from around the world and welcomed hundreds to the fest over three days. Whether you were there and would like to relive it or couldn’t make it and want to see what the fuss was all about, here’s a collection of VTFF2017 stuff to check out! —Jerry White Jr. | Festival Director
We’re proud to announce the winners of the 2017 Vidlings & Tapeheads Film Festival! We had an incredible slate of forty-three short films from around the world, including our Made in Michigan program which highlighted homegrown talent. We can’t wait to see what our alum do next! Many thanks to our programmers and jury for their curation and dedication to promoting these unconventional projects. Prizes have been generously provided by Final Draft, Wacom, ProAm USA, Toon Boom, Transcend, HitFilm, Red Giant, QuickFilmBudget, Couch and more!! Now, without further ado…
